ACLS Renewal

As of June 1, 2016: The American Heart Association (AHA) will require all ACLS students to complete the ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment prior to attending ACLS. You can access the AHA's online ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment by visiting: www.heart.org/eccstudent and entering the access code: acls15

The AHA requires the student to achieve a score of 70% or higher on the online ACLS Pre-course Self-Assessment. The pre-test must indicate the student's full name and a passing score of 70% or greater (altered documents will NOT be accepted). If you show up to class without your printed ACLS Precourse Assesmment you will not be admitted into the class. The AHA requires each student to present a personal, printed copy, of the pre-test certificate at the time of the ACLS class; otherwise, per the AHA, the student cannot be admitted into the course.

Students are required to have their own individual, original copy of the 2015 ACLS student manual or eBook (eBook must be electronically accessible by the student) on the day of the class. Per the AHA: Book sharing is not allowed and Photocopies of the ACLS student manual or eBook will not be accepted. Obtaining the book beforehand is highly recommended. Books can be purchased in person or over the phone at the Flex Ed corporate offices or on the day of class.

++The ACLS Provider course builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS for Healthcare Provider skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR. This advanced course highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care, and immediate post-cardiac arrest care. ACLS also covers airway management and related pharmacology. Skills are taught in large-group sessions and small-group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.

Each participant is evaluated individually on his/her ability to demonstrate core course knowledge and skills while acting as a team leader. Significant precourse preparation is essential to course success.

The AHA requires students in a Renewal course to present a copy of their current AHA provider card. Students with an expired provider card and/or students who do not present to the course with a copy of their current provider card have the option of attending the course but DO NOT have the option of remediation during the course should either they fail either the written or skills portion of the class. The AHA states these students will need to complete the entire provider course if they cannot successfully meet the course completion requirements when tested.

Mandatory Book: 2015 AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider Manual will be required at all classes. The handbook is $40.00 (plus $8 shipping if purchased prior to class.

*AHA requires each student to have an individual, original copy of the handbook at each class. The online printed version of the textbook will not be accepted in the live classroom setting.
