PALS Provider

The American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider course is designed for first-time participants or those with an expired card. This course reviews the foundations of the AHA's BLS for Healthcare Provider course and introduces the concepts of PALS such as the importance of team dynamics and communication, cardiac arrhythmia, anti-arrhythmic pharmacology, airway management, intraosseous access, systems of care, and immediate post-cardiac arrest care. Skills are reviewed in group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.

Each participant is evaluated individually on his/her ability to demonstrate core course knowledge and skills while acting as a team leader. Significant pre course preparation is essential to course success. To complete the course and receive an AHA PALS Provider card, students must pass a written examination with a score of 84% or higher and also pass the mega skills testing portion of the course.

As of December 1, 2016: The American Heart Association (AHA) requires all PALS students to complete the PALS the online Pre-Course Self-Assessment found at www.heart.org/eccstudent prior to attending any PALS course. The access code is located inside of the textbook.

Each student must achieve a score of 70% or higher and is required to bring a printed copy of their Pre-Course Self-Assessment to the class; otherwise, they will not be admitted to the class. The pre-test must indicate the students full name and a passing score of 70% or greater (altered documents will NOT be accepted).

Students are also required to have their own individual, original copy of the 2015 PALS student manual or eBook (eBook must be electronically accessible by the student) on the day of the class. Per the AHA: Book sharing is not allowed and Photocopies of the PALS student manual or eBook will not be accepted. Obtaining the book beforehand is highly recommended. Books can be purchased in person or over the phone at the Flex Ed corporate offices or on the day of class.

Please Note: Students who arrive after the 15 minute grace period will NOT be allowed to attend the course.
Professional attire/scrubs are expected to be worn when attending any Flex Ed course.
